Have you seen all the beautiful colorwork samples in the shop and wondered if you could ever make something so gorgeous?  YOU CAN!  This class will start from the very beginning, teaching you how to work 2 colors at a time to create a limitless number of garments and accessories.  It’s not all Fair Isle out there!

These two sessions will teach you the basics of how to hold your yarn, read a colorwork chart, choose colors, and work stranded colorwork in the round on a 16” circular needle.  Our pattern is the Hidden Falls Headband (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/hidden-falls-headband) which is a free pattern that will give you just enough practice and plenty of confidence in the technique.  We will be using the 3-color version of the pattern.

There will be follow-on classes available in early 2025 to learn more advanced colorwork techniques like working on a small diameter project, catching long floats, steeking, etc.  Look at this class as a way to learn the basic concept and technique.

Your class fee covers 2 sessions plus materials.  You will have your choice of a full size skein of Woolstok for your main color plus 2 half-skeins of contrast colors from a selection curated by the shop.  This is enough yarn to make the headband with extra to spare.  Peg has written instructions to extend the headband into a full hat and you would have enough yarn for the hat if you chose that option.  You will need 16-inch circular needle in sizes 4 and 5 as called for in the pattern.  If you are a very tight knitter, you could size up to 5 and 6.  The project is meant to be knit firmly.

Prerequisites:  Ability to independently cast on and begin work in the round on a 16” circular needle.  Ability to work in a single color on either dpns or Magic Loop.  There will be homework for the first class.

This is an advanced beginner level class.
