Colorwork 201
Small diameter stranded colorwork
Single session class
Tuesday night, 6-8 pm February 25
OR
Wednesday morning, 9:30-11:30 am March 5
$35 including fingerless mitt pattern
Max of 6 students per session
This class will build your stranded colorwork skills by focusing on small diameter knitting found on mittens, sleeves, etc. You do not need to have taken Colorwork 101 but, if you did not, you’ll need to be comfortable with basic 2-color stranded knitting in the round on a 16-inch or longer circular needle. The techniques covered in this class will be carrying floats between needles, maintaining tension in a tiny space, and special considerations for sleeves and mittens. You also need to be comfortable knitting a single color small-diameter project on either dpns or Magic Loop. The class will not cover those techniques because we need all our time to introduce a second color and practice stranded knitting.
Your class fee covers the single session plus Peg’s pattern for stranded colorwork fingerless mitts. Students will need 2 contrasting colors of worsted weight yarn (like Woolstok) and their choice of size 5 dpns or Magic Loop. By the end of class, you will have all the skills necessary to cast on for some fingerless mitts. Peg’s pattern for stranded fingerless mitts (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/pick-a-pattern-mitts) is included in your class fee. Those who took the Colorwork 101 class should have enough yarn left from their headband to complete the mitts. This is not a mitten class but students in this class will have the colorwork skills necessary to complete the mitts.
Prerequisites: Ability to independently cast on and work 2-color stranded colorwork in the round on a 16” or longer circular needle. Ability to work in a single color on either dpns or Magic Loop. There will be homework for the first class.
This is an intermediate level class.
