Slip stitch mitts perfect for holiday gifting
Wednesday mornings: December 3 and 17 9:30-11:30 am
Slip stitch patterns make you look like a knitting rock star with minimal stress. No stranded colors, no cable needles or other tools required. If you gave Pressed Flowers a try in our recent Knit-along, you can knit these mitts. Perfect for the holidays or just a special treat for yourself.
The first session of the class will focus on the cuff of the mitt which is done in garter stitch. Students will come to class with the first 4 rows of simple garter stitch stripes complete. We will dive into reading the chart and working up to the rest of the mitt which is done in simple stockinette. Hopefully we will get to the thumb gusset which ensures your mitts actually fit your hand.
The second session will focus on the top of the mitt and the thumb. These knit up quickly and it’s entirely possible to finish both mitts in the 2-session time frame of the class.
Materials should be purchased from Around the Table Yarns and you’ll be sent a code to get the pattern for free. Pattern is here: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/boxtrot-mitts You’ll need about 75-100 yards each of two colors of sport weight yarn in contrasting colors. There is a sample pair at the shop done in Kelbourne Woolens Andorra and also a sample swatch knit in Silky Wool. Any sport weight yarn will work or you could use a fingering yarn held with a mohair/silk. You’ll need US size 4 needles for small diameter knitting. Magic Loop or dpns will work fine.
Prerequisites: Students must have experience reading charts and be confident in their ability to follow a pattern. Prior experience with slip stitch or mosaic patterns is not required.
