Project Linus info

With the closure of some Jo-Ann’s locations, our local Cuyahoga and Medina County chapter of Project Linus is seeking new community connections and blanket collection locations. Around the Table Yarns is happy to be a drop-off location starting immediately!

Since 1995, Project Linus has distributed over 10,000,000 to children in need.Project Linus is a non-profit with a two-fold mission:

  • To provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children (newborn - 18 years) who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “Blanketeers”.

  • To provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity that benefits children.

Donation requirements for all blankets:

  • of excellent quality

  • clean and free of contaminants including pins, needles, chemicals, perfume, musty or smoky odor, and pet hair

  • made of new, not recycled, materials that are machine washable

  • in infant, child and teen-friendly colors

  • free of decorative items or buttons

  • no religious or holiday themed patterns or messages

  • sewn blankets should be made from 100% cotton fabric or flannel, synthetic polar fleece or anti-pill fleece fabrics. Please avoid Joann's Make It Give It fleece kits. The fabric is thin and poor quality.

(When making fleece blankets, please cut selvage off before you begin with your pattern. Fringe can be tied on two or four sides, or edge can be crocheted or sewn. Most recipients prefer single layer fleece blankets because double layer is too hot for some children).

  • knitted or crochet blankets can not contain wool. Cotton and acrylic are recommended.

Recommended sizes:

  • Baby -- 40" X 40" (no fringe, please)

  • Toddler -- 36" X 48"

  • Child -- 45" X 54"

  • Teen -- 60" X 72"

There are many styles of blankets you can create. You can find many patterns for purchase on www.projectlinus.org with proceeds supporting the organization.
